Tata Motors releases first TVC of Nexon EV Max [Video]

Tata Motors recently launched a new version of the Nexon EV. It is called Nexon EV Max. It starts at Rs. 17.74 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 19.24 lakhs ex-showroom. The homegrown manufacturer has now released a new TVC of the Nexon EV Max.

The Nexon EV Max will be sold in just two variants. There will be XZ+ and XZ+ Lux. As standard, both variants will come with a 3.3 kW AC charger but you can upgrade to the 7.2 kW AC charger by paying extra.

Tata Motors has added a larger battery pack to the Nexon EV Max. It is of 40.5 kWh as compared to 30.2 kWh. Because of this, the claimed range has gone up from 312 km to 437 km. The real-world range of the Nexon EV is around 200 to 250 km depending on the usage and driving behaviour. The real-world range of the Nexon EV Max is expected to be around 300 km which is good enough for highway journeys too.

The 3.3 kW AC charger takes 10 hours to charge the 30.2 kW battery pack of Nexon EV. The same charger takes 15-16 hours to charge the 40.5 kWh battery pack of Nexon EV Max. But as mentioned above you can get a faster 7.2 kW charger with the Nexon EV Max. It reduces the charging time to 5-6 hours. Moreover, if you can find a 50 kW DC fast charger then the electric SUV can be charged up to 80 percent from 0 percent in under an hour.

The power and torque output has also been increased for the Nexon EV Max. The Nexon EV produces 129 PS and 245 Nm whereas the Nexon EV Max produces 143 PS and 250 Nm. Because of this, the 0-100 kmph acceleration time has also decreased from 9.3 seconds to under 9 seconds. Then there is the top speed which has been increased from 120 kmph to 140 kmph.

It was earlier expected that because of the larger battery pack, the boot space of the Nexon EV Max will decrease but that has not happened. It still measures 350 litres. What Tata Motors has done is increased the size of the existing battery pack. Due to this, the ground clearance of the Nexon EV Max is 10 mm lower than the Nexon EV. It is 195 mm as compared to 205 mm.

Moreover, the larger battery pack has also increased the weight of the Nexon EV Max by 100 kgs. 70 kgs increase is because of the battery pack whereas the 30 kgs increase is because of the new features and equipment. So, Tata Motors had to retune the suspension to handle the additional weight. To add to the stopping power, there are rear disc brakes too.

Cosmetically, there are minimal changes. They include new 5-spoke alloy wheels that still measure 16-inches. The dual-paint job now comes as standard and is available only with intensi-teal paint shade. The cabin is now finished in a dual-tone black and beige theme that gives a feeling of airiness to the occupants.

The features that Tata Motors has added to Nexon EV Max are front ventilated seats, air purifier, driving modes, wireless charger, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, Electronic Stability Program, Park mode, digital rotary dial for the gear selector, adjustable brake regeneration, cruise control and hill descent control.
