Takuya Tsumura, President & CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “Today, we embark on our electrification journey in India with the launch of New City e:HEV, reaffirming our commitment to bringing the best and most meaningful technologies to the country. The tremendous response received on the unveiling of the model last month reflects the acceptance of the Strong Hybrid technology in the mainstream segment. The New City e:HEV offers many firsts in the segment, in line with the legacy of Honda City – setting benchmarks for the industry with each introduction.”
The Honda City e:HEV hybrid is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, Atkinson Cycle petrol engine and two electric motors, that combined, deliver 124 bhp and 253 Nm of peak torque. Honda claims the City Hybrid is 40 per cent more fuel-efficient than its petrol counterpart and returns a claimed 26.5 kmpl fuel efficiency. The hybrid City is also 110 kg heavier than its petrol-powered version. The City e:HEV also gets updated with disc brakes at all corners and an electronic parking brake.
The Honda City e:HEV hybrid sedan has three drive modes – EV, hybrid, and petrol, and can run on electric power in the EV mode. Visually, there are very subtle changes to the car in design while the cabin gets upgraded with new upholstery and a hybrid-specific instrument cluster. The rest of the elements are carried over from the ZX trim that it is based on. In terms of features, the Honda City e:HEV hybrid receives ADAS functions via Honda Sensing such as Lane Change Assist, Pedestrian Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
There’s also Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), and Auto High Beam. Other safety features include six airbags, Honda Lane-Watch, a 360-degree view camera, and tyre pressure monitoring.
